Frequently asked questions
Podcast ads are usually sold on a CPM basis — a price per 1,000 ad plays. For each ad slot the calculator multiplies your downloads per episode by the fill rate (the share of downloads that actually run a sold ad), divides by 1,000, and multiplies by that slot's CPM. It sums pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll to show revenue per episode and per month, plus a blended effective CPM per 1,000 downloads.
CPM means cost per mille — the advertiser's price for 1,000 ad impressions. Commonly cited 2026 ranges are roughly $15 for pre-roll, $25 for mid-roll, and $10 for post-roll, which is why we pre-fill those defaults. Rates vary widely by niche, audience, and whether ads are host-read or programmatic.
The pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll CPMs and the fill rate are all editable. We pre-fill typical 2026 industry ranges as a starting point, but there is no single published rate card — your real numbers depend on your sponsor and ad network, so replace the defaults with the figures from your own offer or media kit.
No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. The download counts, episode frequency, fill rate, and CPMs you enter are never uploaded or stored on a server.
