Yes. The elapsed time is measured from your device clock, not from a counter that pauses, so switching tabs or letting the screen dim does not lose time. When you come back, the readout catches up to the real elapsed time.
The split is the time for that lap on its own — the gap since the previous lap. The total is the cumulative time from when you started up to that lap. The first lap's split and total are the same.
The display updates about 30 times a second and shows hundredths of a second, but it is only as precise as your device clock and the browser. It is well suited to workouts, cooking, and study sessions, not for officiating races where certified timing equipment is required.
